Description of underground hip-hop music
Underground hip-hop, often abbreviated as underground rap, is a subgenre of hip-hop music that is characterized by its focus on independent, underground artists who generally operate outside of the commercial mainstream music industry. Unlike mainstream hip-hop, which is often associated with larger record labels and major radio stations, underground hip-hop artists typically produce and distribute their own music through independent record labels or online platforms.
Musically, underground hip-hop often features experimental or alternative sounds, and its lyrics tend to be more socially conscious or politically oriented than mainstream hip-hop. Some of the most notable underground hip-hop artists include MF DOOM, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, and Immortal Technique, among many others.
