Description of neoclassical music
Neoclassical music is a genre of classical music that emerged in the late 20th century as a reaction against the avant-garde and experimental tendencies of contemporary classical music. It draws on the musical forms and structures of the Classical and Baroque eras, but with a modern sensibility and a focus on creating new music rather than re-creating old music. Neoclassical composers often use tonal harmony and traditional forms such as sonatas and symphonies, but with a fresh, modern twist. Some of the prominent neoclassical composers include Arvo Pärt, Philip Glass, and John Adams.
